WILL COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT ADDRESSES LOCAL 179 RETIREE CLUB
On Tuesday, December 19, Lieutenant Ed Hayes with the Will County Sheriff's Department addressed the Local 179 Retiree Club.
The topic was How to Avoid Becoming the Victim of a Scam. The club was educated on the best ways to avoid being the victim of telephone scams, IRS scams, telemarketer scams, credit card fraud, identity theft and home repair contractor scams.
Lieutenant Hayes stressed to the club members to never give out any personal information over the telephone. He emphasized that people on the receiving end of a call are in control and if you question the legitimacy of the call, hang up. He also suggested that when hiring home repair contractors, always get three estimates and ask for references.
